How we use your information and who we share it with
50plus Insurance Services is a trading style of Bluefin Insurance Services Limited which is registered with the Information Commissioner for the purposes of the Data Protection Act. Unless specified otherwise, Bluefin Insurance Services Limited is the Data Controller in relation to any personal data you enter on this website.
Your privacy is important to you and we understand that electronically stored personal information, if mishandled, can cause you enormous inconvenience and distress. We will use your information to manage your insurance with us. This policy describes how we will collect, use and store your personal data in the course of our business with you and how you may access what we hold.
Collecting Data
- We will collect data via this website to a server located in the United Kingdom. Any personal details we collect are stored on our computer systems as described below in Data Storage.
- Payment for insurance via our website can be made by credit or debit card. For information on paying by instalments, please telephone us on the number provided on the quote screen. All credit or debit card payments are transmitted securely via our secure encrypted payment process.
- If you choose to pay for your insurance with us by credit card, you will have the extra protection of the Consumer Credit Act. Your maximum liability of your credit card is £50 if it is lost or stolen or used fraudulently and your liability stops as soon as you tell your credit card company what has happened.
Data Storage
- We will store personal information you provide us on our computer systems which are held locally at our offices in the UK. Backups of this information are kept in off-site storage facilities for the purpose of security. These backups are handled by senior Company staff and not by a third party firm.
- During the period of time when your information is stored on our computer systems, we may record notes of telephone conversations and scan copies of correspondence which are linked to your computer records. We are required by law to retain records for a specified period of time so that even if you cease to become a customer of 50plus Insurance Services, we will retain the personal information we hold about you for at least three years.
- To help provide you with some of our services, we may need to collect and process sensitive personal information (suich as criminal convictions or the state of your health) about you or others. We will only use this data for the specific purpose for which you provide it to us. Please ensure that you only provide us with sensitive information about others with their express agreement.
- Please be aware that any telephone calls made to us are recorded for monitoring and training purposes and to assist us in helping to prevent and detect fraud. Your use of this means of communication means you accept and consent to this.
Sharing data
- We will share the personal information you provide us with other professional firms that are required to know your details in course of us providing you with our service and products.
- This may include disclosing your information to insurers and agents, suppliers and re-insurers who provide services on our behalf.
- We will not sell or transfer your personal details to other firms seeking marketing information.
- We will not transfer your information to countries outside the jurisdiction of the Data Protection Act, namely outside the European Economic Area; however, we cannot guarantee that some of the firms we need to disclose your information to do not transfer your details outside the European Economic Area. In cases where these firms do transfer your details outside the European Economic Area, they must ensure there is an adequate level of protection of your personal information.
- We will disclose your personal information if required to regulatory bodies or to the law.
Motor Insurance Database
The Motor Insurance Database (MID) is run by the Motor Insurers Information Centre (MIIC). If you take out a car insurance policy with 50plus Insurance Services, we will add your policy details to this database. MID data may be used by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency Northern Ireland for the purpose of electronic vehicle licensing and by the poice for the purposes of establishing whether a drivers use of a vehicle is likely to be covered by a motor insurance policy and for preventing and detecting crime. If you are involved in an accident, whether in the UK or abroad, other UK insurers, the Motor Insurers Bureau and the MIIC may search the MID to obtain relevant policy information.
Cookies
Cookies are small pieces of information sent by a web server to a web browser (such as your home computer accessing our 50plus Insurance Services website) which enables the server to collect information from the browser. We may use cookies to refresh your screens when you are navigating our web pages.
We do not use cookies to leave programs on your computer; for example, semi-persistent cookies with a limited lifetime, such as one week, to broadcast information. If you turn off the cookie function on your web browser, you may still use the50plus Insurance Services website; however, returning to previous screens may require re-entering certain details.

Please provide us with your postal address, any relevant policy details (such as insurer, policy no etc) and a cheque for £10 (our administration fee) payable to 50plus Insurance Services.
Dealing With Other People
We will only ever speak to the policyholder regarding any specific policy held with us. If you wish your spouse or partner to deal with your policy then please let us know. Other people will not be able to cancel a policy as we will have to speak to the policyholder regarding a cancellation of cover. We will, in exceptional circumstances, deal with other people regarding your policy provided we have your permission.
